Wind is also a preferable from renewable resource. Basically, wind is the moving form of air we breathe. Scientifically speaking, it is caused by the uneven heating of earth’s surface by the Sun. The absorbing potential of heat by wind varies at different altitudes.
The phenomenon of winds is very simple and depends on the air pressure above the surface. During the day land picks up the heat faster than water. The air above it heats up quickly than air above water. As a result, it expands and moves up. The cooler air from surrounding rushes to take its place creating the winds and the vice-versa happens during the night as the air above the land cools faster than water.
In present times, wind is generally used for generating electricity. It is a renewable source of energy due to the fact that the wind will until the sun shines.
Since olden times, people have controlled the wind energy. More than 5,000 years ago, the early Egyptians used wind to sail ships on the Nile River. Soon after, people erected windmills to mill wheat and other grains. The earliest known windmills were in Persia (Iran). Centuries later, the natives of Holland enhanced the central plan of the windmill. Holland is famed for its windmills.
Similar to old-fashioned windmills, nowadays, wind machines employ blades to save the wind’s kinetic energy. Windmills work since they slow down the velocity of the wind. The wind gush over the airfoil fashioned blades causing lift like effect and in turn causing them to rotate. The blades are attached to a drive tube that turns an electric generator to generate electricity.
The course of producing electricity by wind turbines is the opposite of a moving fan in a house that use electricity and revolves the blades causing air to move. Wind turbines are driven by the strength of moving wind invading on a set of blades and the generator turns the mechanical energy into electricity.
Categorically, there are two kinds of wind-propelled machines:
Horizontal –axis machine
Vertical-axis machines
Horizontal axis wind machines have blades in the shape of airplane propellers. Wind machines placed tall and extensive to tap more wind. Vertical Axis wind machines have blades that move from apex to base and the most ordinary type appears as a massive machines. Vertical-axis wind machines compose up to only a small percent of the wind machines used today.
Wind energy is a cost-effective power reserve in many areas of the country. Wind is an unsoiled fuel; wind farms generate no air or water pollution as no fuel is burned. The most solemn environmental shortcoming of wind machines may be their depressing consequence on wild bird populations.
